Although it could sound spooky, this cemetery is a recommended place
to visit, walking through it, contemplating the grounds, full of trees
and flowers, and the architecture and sculptures, makes you feel the
peace and tranquillity of the place.
The cemetery is
placed in the north of London, the closest tube station is Archway
(Northern Line) and from there, it´s just 15 minutes walking, but you
will enjoy this fantastic neighbourhood on your way to Highgate.
Cemetery is divided into two areas, west and east, you will have to pay
separately to join each one. The most impressive one is the west
cemetery, but the entrance is only allowed with a guided tour (approx. 1
hour) and the ticket price is £12, but you will found the most stunning
architectures, including the Egyptian Avenue and the Circle of Libanon. In this area you can found buried Michael Faraday, Alexander Litvinenko and the family of Charles Dickens.
The
east cemetery is where Karl Marx is buried, but also it´s a good place
to walk without pressures due not guided tours are required to visit it.
Tickets for this area are just £4. Don´t be scared of this kind of
visits and give a chance to this amazing place.
